Simon Says Stamp Challenge: BACKGROUNDS

By Laurel on December 4, 2013

wed-newchallenge-header

HI there! It’s Wednesday, which means it is challenge time!!! WOO HOO!!  And today’s challenge features custom backgrounds. You can make them with inks, stamps, stencils, etc…. The Design Team is using the Gelli Plate and/or stencils. For my project, I used both, hence two cards!!!!!!!  Here’s a peek at both cards I made:

Both backgrounds use the Gelli plate in some way. The Gelli plate I have is the smaller one offered, which measures 6×6. Now I like the gelli plate, but it IS messy so I find that I make a bunch of backgrounds with the plate at once (super easy and quick to do) and then store it a way for a spell before pulling it out again! Let me start with the more complex of the two:

This one uses the Gelli Plate AND the diagonal stripes stencil… The background if you look closely thru the embossing paste, you can see some fun texture.. hThat was created with the gelli plate. After creating the texture, I used the stencil and tinted my white embossing paste the same color as the background using some Claudine Hellmuth paint and then went over the stencil with the paste. After it dried, I finished up the card by creating the tree using THIS stamp set die cut.

And now for my second card, which really showcases what the gelli plate can do:

The background was again using the gelli plate and Claudine Hellmuth paints, but this time, I pressed the stencil ever so slighty into the paint and then just grabbed some things lying on my desk (a paint brush, a scrap piece of card stock with a fringed edge) and just kind of rubbed them around all over the paint to create the texture. Then I pressed my card stock onto the plate and voila.

The stamped image on the circle is from THIS set and will make quick and fabulous gift tags in a flash!  I would be more than happy to film a video showcasing you how I made one or both of these cards if I get enough requests for it! 🙂

The amazing Heidi and the gang over at Simon Says Stamp is offering up a $50 gift voucher to the online store! AWESOMENESS INDEED! So be sure to play along!!!
