Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Back to School

Hi there everyone! It’s Wednesday, which means its a new challenge over at the SImon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog! This week’s theme is Back to School!!!! Appropriate as my son started school this Monday. I am behind on my teacher gifts so this card will go along with a gift I am getting her…. This week, the Design Team is showcasing Maya Road goodies!  I had these wooden shapes and thought, hey… the owl. Perfect to go on a back to school card, wouldn’t you say????

I stamped the honeycomb background from THIS stamp set in versamark onto the owl and heat set. Then I used some different color gelatos to color in the owl. Of course, adding some googly eyes just made him all the cuter!

I colored the owl with a green Wink of Stella glitter pen and went around the edges with some white ink to soften him up a little.

The card base was made with Lawn Fawn papers and stamps (supply list below). This was the first time I did the chalkboard technique and I am pleased with how it turned out. Instead of using an applicator, I just used my finger to spread the white ink around and heat setting the sentiment with white embossing powder… The papers just finish out the card nicely I think.

The owl comes on this bird keychain by Maya Road. Instead of using it as a keychain, I decided to use it as a focal point for the card, but the recipient can easily remove this and put this on her keychain if she would like. I colored the back side of the owl as well.
