**New** Embellish Color Challenge

By Laurel on February 13, 2010

Embellish Magazine’s color birthday challenge was intriguing to me. The color palette itself was striking, but what really sold me was Ashley’s post with her card creation. She mentioned using Photoshop to create her background. I had just purchased the trial version of Photoshop Elements for my mac (since then, I purchased the real deal) so I could try and make a background of my own. I started off with this photo:

And created this:

See? I removed the orange balloon and turned the purple balloon into a blue balloon.  I was so proud of myself that I was able to tinker with PSE and figure it out even though I had never used it before or had taken any classes. (I won’t even begin to tell you how long that took, ha)…. But don’t worry!!! I will be finding some classes to take ASAP! I know most 10 year olds could have probably done this…

Anyway, back to the card… I used my scor-bug along the bottom, I sponged various shades of rasberry fizz and new leaf on the circle. I used Martha Stewart markers to color the cupcake liner (I know, it looks like a 5 year old did that part, lol) and I used flocking powder for the cupcake. I love the soft feeling the flocking powder has… So, what do you think?!?

Well done in incorporating all the colours! This challenge looks difficult to me but I’m gonna give a go!

Way to go on that printed paper! Photoshop isn’t the easiest program to maneuver- it definitely takes some practice. Let me know if you find a good class…I really need to take one!

Great job on creating your patterned paper! I’ve never had classes in Photoshop, it just takes lots of practice and mistakes and frustrations, then you can learn lots! Thanks for taking on an Embellish challenge.

I am so in awe that you made your own background paper. I can barely log on to this computer let alone “do digital”. Eeek. lol. It’s a FABULOUS card!!
