I had to take my 2 year old to the ER this past week. He caught that dreadful stomach bug, and after 4 days, he was still vomiting.
He wouldn’t eat or drink. He was extremely dehydrated and his blood sugar was very low. They had to give him an IV and we sat there for 2 1/2 hours watching drip by drip, wondering if that bag would ever empty! It was heart breaking watching the nurses hold him down to draw blood and put in an IV. One of the hardest things I had to do so far as a parent! I always thought that if I saw vomit or needles, I would pass out! It is funny as a parent, you instantly put on your “mom mode” and you can handle anything. In one day, I went thru 7 shirts because I just let my son vomit all over me! With a 2 year old, he doesn’t understand so you have no signal that it is about to happen…. Once upon a time I would have been diguisted by that..
As a parent, I am happy I can be there for him to help him thru the tough times, no matter how nasty it is!
