DIY Mint Sugar Scrubs Holiday Gift Idea

By Laurel on November 30, 2015

I created 12 DIY scrubs for Christmas gifts this year (teachers, bus driver, neighbors, Mom, etc)… I found the recipe on Pinterest and quickly mixed up the scrubs and added them to these 1/2pt wide mouthed mason jars I got on Amazon.

I created the toppers by die cutting a circle shape from this die set that fit the lid with some watercolored cardstock.  Then I sprayed the circle die cuts with water and added a few spritzes of Color Bursts (exact colors linked below).

The last thing I did was stamp a bunch of these adorable elves from the Elf’d stamp set, colored them in with Copics and added some clear Wink of Stella over the top, and then die cut them with the coordinating die. I wanted these babies to stick so I used some Scor-tape/Be Creative to secure the elves…

As I mentioned before,  I found the recipe of the scrub on Pinterest HERE!
Ingredients:
  • A little less than ½ cup coconut oil
  • 1½ – 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon peppermint extract
  • 1 drop green food coloring

Directions:

I added the coconut oil (use less if you want the scrub to be less oily) to a bowl and mashed it around with a spoon until it was soft. Then I added the sugar.. I started with 1 1/2 cups and added a bit more until I was satisfied with the texture. Then I added a TB of peppermint extra and one drop of green food coloring. Mixed it all up and voila! Minty green sugar scrub!

By the way, today is the last day of the Blitsy Black Friday sale. ALL the colors bursts are only $2.99 each. Click HERE to shop and save.

Be sure to check back on the blog tomorrow because I will have a HUGE GIVEAWAY!

Hi Laurel ~ These are awesome homemade gifts. Such a great idea that I do believe I just might CASE it!! I even bought those adorable Elf stamps awhile back! I may ‘have’ to break into Santa’s bag of gifts and ‘borrow’ some Color Burst!! You’re always so darn creative! (You did an awesome job on the Live Blitsy today too!!) Thanks for sharing!

I love the invigorating scent of mint and will whip up some of this scrub for myself this weekend. The cute labels scream holiday, the color burst is very vibrant. Thank you for the great idea!

What a darling little gift. So thoughtful and so useful. Not to mention a little treat for you because you would probably have some left over that would not fit into one of the decorated jars! ?

Can you substitute for some other oil if you don’t have coconut?

How awesome Laurel. I think my Sam’s Club has a 5 gallon jar of coconut oil. I can get that and some sugar and extracts and make some awesome scrubs. Do you think vanilla extract (real and not artificial) would work? Maybe some other scents also? Thank you for sharing this fun item.
