August Pin-Sights Challenge: Watercoloring and Diecutting Thanks card

By Laurel on August 18, 2016

Hi there! Today I am playing along with the new Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights Challenge and used some goodies from the latest release in today’s project! AND, I have a video to go along with it. The first video I have made since moving to Connecticut. To watch the video, you can watch it right here on the blog or head on over to my youtube channel and watch it in HD by clicking HERE!

I die cut the sunrays from the Silver Linings Die cut twice and mounted them together to form a square panel. I blended Abandoned Coral, Worn Lipstick and Tea dye distress inks onto the sun ray panel pulling in those colors from the Inspirational photo.

Then I stamped couple of images from the ADORABLE Bear Ware stamp set in white pigment ink onto some of Julie’s Bristol Paper and then sprinkled on some white embossing powder and heat set it. I used the Bristol paper because I am using some of the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to color in the images. Now with these markers, I have found that paper is key! When I first got them, I hated them because they wouldn’t blend onto the watercolored paper I use was using! A friend told me ITS THE PAPER! So I have found that any Bristol paper and any 90lb watercolored paper (any brand) works great for me. The other popular watercolored papers that I have in my stash don’t work well for me with these pens!

Once the color dried, I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images! The sentiment is from the Warm Fuzzies stamp set (such an adorable name, lol). I stamped in with Hero Arts Charcoal Ink. The little heart is from the Oh Frappe die set! Added a layer of  Glossy Accents and Spectrum Noir Glitter overlay to the heart!

I hope you will play along with us over at the Pin-Sights Challenge! You could win a $50 shopping spree to the online store! Here is a look at the inspiration photo for this month’s challenge:

Hi Laurel, love this card, the die cuts really set off the sweet little bunny. And thanks for the great tip about using the Bristol paper with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I immediately tried it, and what a difference!!!

Hi Laurel ~ Your card is a show-stopper and used the inspiration piece to the tee. I love the colors and design totally and completely. I tried to order that awesome sunburst die set but it’s on B/O. Can’t wait til it gets back….it looks versatile and fun! Thanks for sharing and for always inspiring me to get crafting. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for lots of strength to get over this “hump” in your life.
