UPDATE: After many requests, I will happily create a video on gilding flakes and alcohol inks and post it on August 31st!
Alcohol Inks and Gilding Flakes make a perfect pairing……..To create the background, I added some Patina and Pistachio Alcohol Ink to some Yupo paper. The results when dry are stunning….. The Gilding Flakes add some texture and dimension to the background panel.
Once everything was dry, I stamped the mermaid tales from the S’Whale stamp set in Catherine Pooler Midnight ink, sprinkled on some Raven embossing powder and heat set. NOTE: It’s Yupo paper so it warps easily. I made sure my heat tool was nice and hot and then quickly moved the gun around my paper many many times until the embossing powder melted.
A few finishing touches…. Vellum waves (I hand cut) with a heavy coating of Star Dust stickles to add some sparkle and texture to the waves….
Be sure to head to the Ellen Hutson Blog and participate in this month’s challenge! It’s all about Alcohol Inks and you could win a $50 shopping spree to the store!

So gorgeous!!
Beautiful card, but I am not sure how (with glue?) and when (before alcohol inks are dry?) to add the gilding flakes…
I also would like to know how you applied the gilding flakes! Stunning!
Beautiful, Laurel! That describes you and the card. I made some alcohol backgrounds last night, using foil rather than gilding flakes. My hubby commented that one would be good for a mermaid card . . . I think he was hinting for one of our granddaughter’s. Thanks for sharing your time and talent.
Very cute card, I do know that the gilding flakes will stick to the pooled alcohol ink like foiling does. I have embraced the (slight) warp of Yupo since it’s almost impossible not to happen, it gives a cool 3-D effect to the card. I made a galaxy card and it looked amazing.
Beautiful card! Did you add the gilding flakes while the alcohol was wet? Similar to using foil?
Ok we are begging can we have a short video of the process
