Loose watercoloring is something I’ve never tried. I’ve seen it by many talented crafters but never had the courage to muster up and try it myself! Check that off my bucket lists because I took a stab at it for my card for the current Ellen Hutson Pin-Sights Challenge! The Pin-Sights challenge is a challenge based on an inspirational photo I choose each month. I hope you’ll play along with us! I am using a gorgeous stamp set from Art Impressions called Covered Bridge.
I stamped the images in a soft gray pigment ink, heat set it and then started watercolored with the Gansai Tambi watercolors. The reason I chose to heat emboss the image is because I wanted to create a barrier of sorts when I watercolor and by heat embossing, it raises up the image slightly. I also wanted to be sure you could see the detail of the bridges and trees (the opposite of no line watercoloring).
I enjoyed watercoloring this piece. I had my Ipad propped off to the site and was listening to whatever series is I was watching at the time and just started coloring. I did let the colors dry in between starting a new color so they wouldn’t all run together.
I sure hope you will head on over to the Ellen Hutson CLASSroom and play along in our current Pin-Sights Challenge. It is based of an inspiration photo and I chose to work with the darker colors of the photo, but the inspirational photo itself is comprised of soft colors like purple and yellow! That is why I love this challenge! You can interpret the photo any way you’d like.
